pixel_doubling_blit.c (New to Libraries) |
Version: 19970803 By: Jon Watte E-mail: pixelblit@mindcontrol.org Web page: Available Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 8/3/97 Requires BeOS version: PR License: Freeware Cost: 0 Source Available?: Yes |
Description: Suppose you have a bitmap that's 320x200 pixels in memory, and you really want it to occupy 640x400 pixels on screen. You preferrably want it to do that as quickly as possible, and you already have your BWindowScreen connected, ready and willing to get blitted to. Just drop in this function, and it will do the doubling and blasting to screen as quickly as possible on a PowerPC system, both for PCI graphcis cards and systems with motherboard graphics chips. Somewhat tested, and believed to work, but caveat programmer - use at your own risk!

screen history, add-on emulators, and an optional
high-level BMessage-based protocol for communicating
with remote devices. If you are interested in this,

Version: 1.01 By: Gregory Weston E-mail: bastion1@netcom.com Web page: (none) Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 8/1/97 Requires BeOS version: PR License: Freeware Cost: US$0 Source Available?: Yes |
Description: This application simply exports a replicant that displays a picture. Its primary purpose is to let you put pictures on your desktop to brighten up the flat color. For now, it just looks for a file named DesktopImage in the B_USER_CONFIG_DIRECTORY. It uses Jon Watte's DataTypes library, and can therefore load anything for which you have a handler installed. If you put a big picture on your desktop, it will be difficult to get at your drives and trash; replicants draw in front of desktop icons.
Source is included, and it can probably be compiled for AA if you want it.
1.01 represents a couple of changes which are essentially aesthetic, and includes some documentation.

Info Last Modified: 7/25/97 Requires BeOS version: PR License: Shareware Cost: TBD Source Available?: No |
Description: Wilbur is a multi-user FTP server for BeOS, supporting a number of concurrent users limited only by available system resources. This is a public beta version of Wilbur and is not yet feature-complete. Not a port, Wilbur was developed starting with the RFC and blank compiler window. Wilbur uses its own users, groups, and permissions files, and will also support the native BeOS file permissions when they become available. Real-time server usage monitoring is provided in this release, but the drag-and-drop UI for user and group maintenance is not yet available. Server configuration is therefore done through text file editing. See the included README file for details.
Also to be included by 8/2/97 is ZAP file support, allowing the cross-platform preservation of operating-system specific file attributes.

as wanted too. Logarithmic zoom going down to the sample
with a constant relative precision all over its range.
No clipboard - everything is on screen. This way, it should
be easier to chose between different sets of effects
parameters (when effects will be here). Nifty marker/region
logic allowing for fast, precise, editing, leading to
nearly non-destructive work.
For the moment, it's really a demo-version - the design
is awful and there's no effect at all. It should change
really quickly - stay tuned.

Description: time is a position in a cycle. this is a different type of time cycle.
SineClock - a sound installation for the BeOS
if you spend enough time in a place, you will begin to know the patterns of that place - the sun and moon, traffic, tides, smells, faces, sounds. once you know the patterns, you can begin to use them to tell the time - if the trash truck just woke me up, it must be friday morning. if the sun is high in the middle of the sky and i'm still in bed, it's probably noon. (i like to sleep!)
SineClock puts a pattern - the interaction of three sets of sine waves - on your desktop and into your ears. if you spend enough time with it, that pattern and the information it contains (the time of day) become clear, plus, it's just nice to watch/listen to!

The real hard work behind this program (the actual 3D code) was
taken from demos written by Benoit Schillings which may still be
available somewhere on ftp.be.com.

TermSound (New to Audio) |
Version: 1.0 By: Brian Tietz E-mail: btietz@ucsd.edu Web page: (none) Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 8/2/97 Requires BeOS version: AA:PR License: Freeware Cost: Source Available?: Yes |
Description: This was my first project for the BeOS. All it does is play one or more sound files. The reason I wrote it is to be able to play a sound from the terminal without bringing up a window the way PlaySound does. I use it to play a startup sound. I inserted the following line into /boot/system/UserBootscript:
TermSound "/boot/sounds/Beavis&ButtheadBeginning"
It can also be used to play multiple sounds in sequence:
TermSound Sound1 Sound2 etc.
It can play any sound supported by BeOS's play_sound() function, which currently is AIFF, WAVE, and UNIX formats. Anything else will be played, but will be treated as raw data and may not play correctly...

beosclut.zip (New to Graphics) |
Version: 1.0 By: Matt Bogosian E-mail: mattb@columbia.edu Web page: (none) Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 7/10/97 Requires BeOS version: PR License: Freeware Cost: $0.00 Source Available?: No |
Description: This is a Color LookUp Table (CLUT) for use with any image editor which uses Photoshop CLUTs. It contains the BeOS 8-bit color system palette. So until y'all nag Adobe enough to port Photoshop to the BeOS, you can use Photoshop for MacOS or (gag) Win95 to do your graphics. This is in zip format (for compatibility). On a Mac, you'll probably have to set the Type and Creator (using ResEdit or Daniel Azuma's FileTyper) to '8BCT' and '8BIM' respectively.
I've now changed the color in slot 0xFF (255) to resemble a booger yellow. This color is not anywhere else in the palette. The point of this is to preserve the transparency values of 8-bit Be bitmaps. If it is left white, Photoshop will save the image with the first white it encounters (which is value 0x1F). In other words, if you want transparent white (instead of regular white) in your bitmaps, select the special booger yellow. Don't worry -- it won't byte.
