BeBar | |
Version: 1.4 By: Thorsten Seitz E-mail: thorsten@itap.physik.uni-stuttgart.de Web page: Available Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 5/7/97 Requires BeOS version: DR8 License: Freeware Cost: - Source Available?: No |
Description: BeBar shows the icons of running apps on a bar making their main
menus easily accessible (idea: Jon Ragnarson).
The main menu of the BeBar itself provides access to system
preferences (all apps from /boot/preferences) and to apps
which
have been quitted recently. BeBar can display information
about an icon on the bar in an info window on either a
COMMAND-click or a third button click. Quitting/killing is
possible from these info windows. Other applications may
request space on the BeBar to display small
bitmaps on the bar (e.g. a clock). This is achieved through
exchanging BMessages. It contains source code for a
wrapper class to do this more easily and demonstrates its
use by three examples in the BeBar package: a Clock, a
Pulse and a Memory module, of course :-). You can drop
browser items on the icons just like you would drop an
item on the respective app's icon in the browser.
Dropping items on
the BeBar icon puts them in a submenu called "Useful Items"
in BeBar's main menu. Position, recent apps and background
bar are now remembered at the next launch.
The bar can alternatively grow to the right or left.

BeBench | |
Version: 0.7 AA By: Dirk Steins E-mail: dsteins@ibm.net Web page: (none) Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 8/2/97 Requires BeOS version: AA:PR License: Freeware Cost: Source Available?: Yes |
Description: BeBench tests the graphics performance of the
BeOS. It tests every single benchmark at least
10 seconds to produce reliable results. Every
test results in a value given in MPixels/s and
at the end a (totally meaningless) value is
calculated in the (also meaningless) unit
Be-Marks.
You can use BeBench to compare the performance
of different graphic cards under BeOS.
Maybe later some other tests like memory
performance, disk i/o, cpu performance will
be added, but only if they make any sense at
all.
New in 0.6: Fixed bug in filled rectangle mark calculation
and changed filled rectangle and pattern fill to produce more
reliable results.

Info Last Modified: 8/2/97 Requires BeOS version: AA+DR8 License: Freeware Cost: Free Source Available?: Yes |
Description: Bzip is a Gzip replacement and has the same command-line
arguments. Although it compresses files much better than
Gzip it also requires more time to do so.
Decompression is typically much faster than compression
and, once GCC is available, its optimizations should make
this compression utility much faster than with MWCC's
optimizations.
Bzip compresses files using the Burrows-Wheeler-Fenwick
block-sorting text compression algorithm. Compression is
generally considerably better than that achieved by more
conventional LZ77/LZ78-based compressors, and competitive
with all but the best of the PPM family of statistical
compressors.

Info Last Modified: 8/1/97 Requires BeOS version: PR License: Freeware Cost: US$0 Source Available?: Yes |
Description: This application simply exports a replicant that displays a picture. Its primary purpose is to let you put pictures on your desktop to brighten up the flat color. For now, it just looks for a file named DesktopImage in the B_USER_CONFIG_DIRECTORY. It uses Jon Watte's DataTypes library, and can therefore load anything for which you have a handler installed. If you put a big picture on your desktop, it will be difficult to get at your drives and trash; replicants draw in front of desktop icons.
Source is included, and it can probably be compiled for AA if you want it.
1.01 represents a couple of changes which are essentially aesthetic, and includes some documentation.

Description: GlobalStat is a server. It doesn't do any stats analysis.
Its clients send streams of data, that are displayed by
GlobalStat in a highly configurable GUI. But GlobalStat
doesn't do the display itself: it uses add-ons, and the
user chooses which add-on to use with which client.
For example there may be add-ons for bars, graphs, or
anything more complex. The idea is to make the data
and its display independant. There are also networking
capabilities... and more things; if you're interested, read

Info Last Modified: 3/4/97 Requires BeOS version: DR8 License: Freeware Cost: 0 Source Available?: Yes |
Description: Port of PGP 2.6.2 for the BeBox.
Actually, Not. =)
Its just a patcher that handles changes so that the official
pgp 2.6.2 code works on a BeBox.
(can't include full PGP source without regulating
ability to export.) You'll have to get the source on your
own... but the location is given in the archive.
A short script makes the patch almost painless.
Note: If you are not physically located in the United States, use the PGP2.6.3i
port which is located at http://www.hut.fi/~oahvenla/Be. Its much faster and
has fewer hacks to get things to work. However, 2.6.3i is illegal in the
United States. (Don't say I didn't tell you so.)
