AmigaDOS Commands

Command Purpose
ADDBUFFERS:Instructs the file system to add or display cache buffers for a drive
ADDDATATYPES:Builds a list of data types (system command)
ALIAS:Sets or displays command aliases
ASK: Gets yes or no user input during script file execution
ASSIGN:Controls assignment of logical devices
AVAIL:Reports on amount of available memory
BINDDRIVERS:Activates device drivers in Expansion drawer (system command)
BREAK:Sets attention flags in the specified process
CD:Sets or displays current directory
CHANGETASKPRI:Changes priority of shell processes
CONCLIP: Moves data between console windows and the clipboard (system command)
COPY:Copies files and directories
CPU: Sets or displays processor options
DATE:Sets or The Date on the clock
DELETE:Deletes files or directories
DIR:Displays a sorted list of files in a directory
DISKCHANGE:Informs the system of a disk change
ECHO:Displays a string
EDEdits text files
EDIT:(line editor) Edits text files
ELSE:Specifies an alternitive for an "IF" statement in a script file
ENDCLI:Ends a shell process
ENDIF:Terminates an "IF" block in a script
ENDSHELL:Ends a shell process
ENDSKIP:Ends a "SKIP" block in a script file
EVAL:Evaluates integer or boolean expressions
EXECUTE:Executes a script with optional argument substitution
FAILAT:Instructs a command sequence not to fail unless given a value is given
FAULT:Prints messages for the specified error numbers
FILENOTE: Attaches a comment to a file
GET:Gets a value of a local variable
GETENV:Gets a value of a global variable
ICONX:Allows the execution of a script file from an icon
IF:Evaluates conditional operations in script files
INFO:Gives information about mounted devices
INSTALL:Writes or checks a disk boot block
IPREFS:Monitors system preferences (system command)
JOIN:Concatenates two or more files into a new file
LAB: Specifies a label in a script file
LIST: Lists specified information about directories and files
LOADRESOURCE:Preloads resources into memory to avoid excessive disk swaps
LOADWB:Starts the Workbench
LOCK: Sets the write-protect status of a device
MAGTAPE:Rewinds or skips forward SCSI tapes
MAKEDIR:Creates a new directory
MAKELINK:Creates a link between file names
MOUNT:Makes a device connected to the system available
NEWCLI:Opens a new shell window
NEWSHELL:Opens a new shell window
PATH: Controls the directory list that the shell searches to find commands
PROMPT:Changes the prompt string of the current shell
PROTECT:Changes the protection bits if a file or directory
QUIT:Exits from a script file with a specified return code
RELABEL:Changes the volume name of the disk in the given drive to the specified name
REMRAD:Removes the recoverable RAM disk RAD:
RENAME:Changes the name of or moves a file or directory
REQUESTCHOICE:Allows AmigaDOS and ARexx scripts to use custom requesters
REQUESTFILE:Allows AmigaDOS and ARexx scripts to use a file requester
RESIDENT:Displays and modifies the list of resident commands
RUN:Executes commands as background processes
SEARCH:Looks for the specified text string in the file of the specified directories
SET:Sets a local variable
SETCLOCK:Sets or reads the battery backed-up hardware clock
SETDATE: Changes the date stamp of a file or directory
SETENV:Sets a global variable
SETFONT:Sets the font for the shell
SETKEYBOARD:Sets the keymap for the shell
SETPATCH:Makes ROM patches in the system software (system command)
SKIP:Skips to a lable when executing script files
SORT:Alphabetically sorts the lines of a file
STACK:Displays or sets the stack size with in the current shell
STATUS:Lists information about shell processes
TYPE: Displays the contents of a file
UNALIAS:Removes an alias
UNSET:Removes a local variable
UNSETENV:Removes a global variable
VERSION: Displays software version and revision numbers
WAIT: Waits for a specified time
WHICH:Searches the command path for a particular item
WHY:Prints an error message that explains why the previous command failed
