AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie

Rail systems division

The rail systems division comprises AEG Schienenfahrzeuge GmbH, AEG Bahnfahrwegsysteme GmbH and AEG Transportation Systems Inc., Pittsburgh, USA. The range of products and services encompasses complete transport systems for long-distance, regional and local rail traffic as well as industrial rail systems. The range also includes high-speed trains and monorails as well as underground rolling stock, rapid urban transit vehicles and tramcars. The company leads the world in the sector of automatic, fully automated passenger transfer systems.

With a series of acquisitions and new developments over the last few years, the business field has been able to substantially extend its systems capability. To take one example, the unveiling of the 12X presented the world with its most modern three-phase locomotive. At Frankfurt Airport in autumn 1994, the "Skyline" became Germany's first operational People Mover.

In March 1995, a 50:50 Joint Venture was agreed with Asea Brown Boveri AG (ABB). This new jointly-owned company, which is now waiting for a green light from the European Cartel Office, would become the world's leading supplier of rail systems.
