March 21, 1996 - Novell, Inc. today announced it has finalized an agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc. to license its Java platform for use with NetWare, the industry-leading network operating system serving over 50 million users. As part of the agreement, Novell is authorized to offer its developers and customers access to the complete Java platform, including the core power of Java - the Java Virtual Machine. March 12, 1996 - At the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference today, Microsoft Corp. announced today it has concluded an agreement to license Java from Sun. ( For more information, see the complete press release )

March 6, 1996 - Waite Group Press announces the publication of a new book, Java Primer Plus, by Paul Tyma, Gabriel Torok, and Troy Downing. Fully compatible with the 1.0 JDK, it inlcudes a complete Java API reference. ( For more information, visit the Waite Group Web site )

March 5, 1996 - JavaSoft has now released the draft JDBC Java database API for public review.

Book News

O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. has recently posted a chapter from the newly published book, Java in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference for Java Programmers by David Flanagan. This excerpt can be found at http://www.ora.com/info/java/. (The programming examples in the book can be found at http://www.ora.com/catalog/books/javanut/.) The first book in the forthcoming O'Reilly Java series, Exploring Java will be published in April, 1996. More titles will follow this spring.

Wiley Computer Publishing has recently published two books for Java developers, The Java Sourcebook by HotWired's Ed Anuff, and Java for C/C++ Programmers by Mike Daconta, America OnLine's Programmers U. Java expert.

In April, the Wiley Web site http://www.wiley.com/compbooks/ will feature a Java resource page, with downloadable code, ready to run applets, Java utilities, and links to the hottest Java development sites on the Web.
