The Act of Surrender

The signing of the Act of Surrender took place at the Préfecture de police. The signatories were General von Choltitz, Général Leclerc, and Colonel Rol of the FFI. Rol's name was written (see the image above) into the document upon the insistance of Maurice Kriegel-Valrimont, Communist member of the COMAC (Comité d'Action Militaire / Committee of Military Action).

The convenction itself does not mention the other Allies, but is rather an act between the Governement Provisoire de la Republique Française (Provisional Government of the French Republic) and General von Choltitz, ``Military Commandant of the German Forces in the Paris Region.'' This was the only major surrender of the post D-Day Command in which the Allied principle was not followed.
