To protect his family living in Vichy France, Philippe François Marie Leclerc de Hautecloque took the nom de guerre of Jacques Philippe Leclerc upon joining Général de Gaulle in London (10 March 1941). Général Leclerc lead the 2nd French Armored Division which raced to Paris in a drive beginning the 23rd of August. Later, on the 25th, he was - together with Colonel Rol - to receive the surrender of General Choltitz at the Préfecture de police.
