Colonel Rol

Henri Tanguy, alias Colonel Rol

Head of the Paris Resistance, and dedicated Communist. Rol and the Communists wanted a general insurrection in Paris before the Free French Forces, and Allies, could arrive to liberate the city. The move was to obtain political power in Paris liberated by the Resistance and Communists rather than by the Gaullist forces of the Free French, and the Allies.

Later, together with Général Leclerc he was to sign the Act of Surrender. The presence of his signature infuriated de Gaulle.

Rol-Tanguy (as he is now known) is one of the few great men from this moment in history who is still alive.
