July 30.
On the way to the pre-olympic sailing competitions in Savannah, the IYRU President, Paul Henderson, was keen not to miss the
start of the Channel Race in the Admiral's Cup. The Canadian President of the IYRU had a ringside view of the spectacle off
the coast at Cowes from the tender of AeroSail Anemos.
Henderson not only used the opportunity to talk in detail with AeroSail's managing director, Dr. Hans Blume, about future
projects and priorities of the IYRU and Daimler-Benz AeroSail, but also to exchange a few words on the journey to start with
King Harald of Norway who, with his ILC 40 "Fram XII", is a member of the Scandinavian team.
In his talks on the AeroSail boat, the IYRU President also expressed his interest in acting as an advisor to the IOC Evaluation
Commision in order that problems like those with the course at Savannah are not repeated. The Commision, under the chairmanship
of German IOC member Dr. Thomas Bach, will from 1996 examine the applications of cities seeking to host the 2004 Olympic Games;
from the candidates (ten so far) - among them, Rio de Janeiro, St. Peterburg, Cape Town and Peking - it will recommend four cities
to the IOC members who will the take a vote at the 1997 IOC session in Lausanne.
