The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis

Education

Winner - The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis
Broderbund's Zoombinis is aimed at children, but its gameplay is addictive enough to keep adults enthralled. The graphics manage to be sophisticated while still keeping a young appeal and the problems have a bright and breezy sense of humour. A big hit with kids, its won plaudits from educational professionals impressed with how well it teaches concepts such as sorting and logic.
Finalist - Encarta 97 World Atlas
CD-ROM encyclopedias aren't a new concept, but Microsoft's Encarta 97 World Atlas takes it off the screen and puts it online. Microsofts heavy investment in mapping technology is very apparent in this latest edition, which allows you to zoom in and out effortlessly. The rich assortment of facts, figures and photographs makes it a welcome edition to the home library.
Finalist - Adiboo.
Parents are often amazed at what a young age their children can benefit from the PC. In Sierra's AdiBoo I Can Read I Can Count, a colourful cartoon character teaches not only the basics, but concepts such as tending plants in a garden, baking fanciful cakes in a kitchen and memory skills.
