May 27, 1993Took over as Chairman and CEO of Mercedes-Benz AG.
1/1992 - 5/1993Appointed Member of Management Board responsible for central and strategic tasks.
11/1987 - 12/1991Member of Management Board of Daimler-Benz AG responsible for commercial vehicles division. While Deputy President of Mercedes-Benz AG also in charge of finance and controlling and central purchasing at Mercedes-Benz AG.
1/1982 - 10/1987Chairman of Management Board of Continental Gummi-Werke AG.
1979 - 12/1981When Continental took control of the company's European tyre activities in 1979, Werner was appointed member of the Management Board.
1961 - 79In 1961 Werner joined the firm then known as Englebert & Co GmbH, based in Aachen. There he held various positions in finance and marketing before becoming European General Product Manager based in Liege, Belgium. In 1977 his responsibilities were extended to all product groups of Uniroyal Europe.
Other responsibilites:
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Expo Gesellschaft which is entrusted with planning and organizing the World Fair in Hanover in 2000. Member of the Supervisory Boards of BASF AG, IBM Deutschland GmbH and the Gerling Konzern Versicherungs-Beteiligungs AG.

Helmut Werner is also Board Member of Detroit Diesel Corporation, a member of the Advisory Board of the Deutsche Bank, Stuttgart and on the Curatory Panel of the Research Institute for Automobiles and Vehicle Engines, also in Stuttgart.
