Manfred Bischoff was born on April 22, 1942 in the town of Calw in the Black Forest. He studied law and economics at the Universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg, obtaining a degree in economics from the University of Heidelberg. In 1973 he obtained a doctorate.Between 1968 and 1976, Bischoff carried out numerous tasks for the Chair of Economic Policy and International Trade at the Alfred Weber Institute of the University of Heidelberg. In 1976, he joined the Subsidiaries and Affiliates division of Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart, where he supervised the Mercedes-Benz cross-country vehicle project. From 1981 on, Dr. Manfred Bischoff worked on international project and affiliate tasks in the Finance division, where he later assumed responsibility for the Financing Companies and Affiliates sector. In 1988, Dr. Manfed Bischoff joined the management team of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil in Sao Paulo, the largest foreign subsidiary of the Daimler-Benz group, where he exercised responisibility for Finance and Controlling.
On May 19, 1989, Dr. Bischoff was appointed member of the Board of Management responsible for Finance and Controlling in the newly formed company Deutsche Aerospace AG, Munich - today Daimler-Benz Aerospace. On May 25, 1995 he became President and CEO of Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG. Since February 28, 1996 he is also president of the BDLI (Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie, German Aerospace Industries Association).
