Daimler-Benz Partners Kiel Week

Sport is in the spotlight -
but without service, nothing runs

Stuttgart, June 12, 1995
A commitment to tradition: Daimler-Benz's involvement in the Kiel Week, which began in 1988, continues in 1995 with the 101st Kiel Week. In the limelight this year is "AeroSail," the Daimler-Benz Group's sailing project, in which all four of the corporate units are represented.

Daimler-Benz's partnership in the Kiel Week is a testament to its diversity and its competence as a technology group in the field of sport. Daimler-Benz AG has established a subsidiary, AeroSail GmbH to support its involvement in sailing. This year, AeroSail will send two boats in each of both the Mumm 36 class and the ILC 40 yacht class to compete in Schilksee in the qualifying regattas for the places on the German Admiral's Cup Team. The AeroSail team, led by double Olympic champion Jochen Schümann, considers it a good omen that both the ASTRO and the ANEMOS, were launched in Kiel.

Another AeroSail project is also continuing in Kiel with the running of the second HandiCup, a regatta run exclusively by sailors of the German Handicapped Athletes' Association (DSB). AeroSail is supplying six boats for this event, and together with the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC) is handling its organization and management. There's no better demonstration of partnership.

As in years past, Mercedes-Benz's Kiel branch will also help make sure the event runs smoothly on land. 35 vehicles (cars and light trucks) will be dispatched by radio telephone from the motor pool central office in Schilksee as a shuttle service for the Kiel Week's competitors and spectators. A specially equipped workshop car will be available for trailer maintenance. To help handle the sharp increase in traffic in the greater Kiel/Schilksee area during the event, the Mercedes-Benz traffic service and road patrol will again be mobilized.

For lovers of good photography, the exhibition "CHAMPS" will be on view at Kiel's Mercedes-Benz branch from June 17 through July 2. "CHAMPS - Encounters in Sport" is a collection of photographic portraits of top sportsmen and sportswomen by Jan Michael.

Another corporate unit of the Daimler-Benz concern is also involved in Germany's largest sailing event. As was also the case last year, the Kiel Yacht Club e.V. has transferred the complete marketing rights for the 1995 Kiel Week to debis Marketing Services. The entire Daimler-Benz concern is thus involved in Kiel Week.
