A series of events, discussions and exhibits forms the heart of the Daimler-Benz Group's presentation at this year's Hannover Trade Fair. The theme of the Group's stand at the trade fair, which runs from April 3 - 8, 1995, is "Expanding Horizons." Examples of how the Group is making a commitment to international cooperation within the context of many research projects can be seen on the top floor of Hall 18. For example, together with institutes from all over the world, Daimler-Benz researchers are developing the innovative technologies that will form the basis for tomorrow's products.Lectures, discussions and informational events involving scientists and experts are held each day in the conference forum, which quite literally forms the heart of the Group stand. The stand itself is a world of discovery in which the exhibits are arranged in spacious surroundings. For the visitors, there is a lot to "experience" and also opportunities to become actively involved. Large panels mark the boundaries of individual exhibition zones and niches, but also provide visitors with information and an overview of the stand landscape.
What there is to see:
The exhibits at the stand cover the entire range of the Group's research and advanced design activities:
- Due to its high efficiency and the fact that it produces only pure water as "exhaust," the fuel cell could become the energy source and power plant of the future.
- The VITA II Research Vehicle can drive completely autonomously. For example, it can overtake other cars without human intervention. VITA II will greatly improve driving safety in the future.
- The "Vario Research Car" demonstrates one way in which an automobile can meet the growing demand for flexible utilization. The innovative vehicle can be transformed from a convertible to a sedan, or from a pick-up to a station wagon quite simply in just a few minutes.
- Contactless energy transmission opens up completely new paths of energy transfer. Initial applications in production are currently being tested.
- Radar can be used to measure distances with the utmost accuracy. One possible application here is the improvement of metering (level indication) in production processes.
- A state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition system capable of understanding connected sentences is demonstrated in the form of a train information system. The Daimler-Benz researchers are also showing the individual steps performed by the computer during the recognition of speech on a monitor.
- Virtual reality (VR) is demonstrated in the form of current research projects, such as the use of VR for designing vehicle interiors or evaluating spatial awareness in houses. Also being presented is virtual prototyping, which will play a significant role in the faster conversion of prototypes into products.
Human resources marketing - contacts to the next generation of experts
This year, as well as presenting its technological expertise to the public, Daimler-Benz is also looking to make contacts with the up-and-coming generation. Personnel experts from throughout the Group are available to provide visitors - and in particular students - with information. So that discussions can be held in flexible groups, an area to be used exclusively for human resources marketing activities has been set up at the stand.
AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie:
Technology for People At AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie's main stand in Hall 11, drive, instrument and control technologies can be seen in addition to exhibits on automation technology, process engineering, freight distribution and environmental engineering. The transfer of process know-how into complete systems for the water supply industry can be experienced "hands-on" thanks to a wide range of exhibits extending from the Viewstar 750 control station to the DREHMO actuator. The control and instrumentation technology of a 240,000-kilometer-long gas pipeline network is used to demonstrate the real-time monitoring and control of gas and mineral oil distribution systems. AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie has a special relationship with the partner country of the 1995 Hannover Trade Fair. The company has been represented in Indonesia since the turn of the century, thus AEG Daimler-Benz Industrie is also represented in Hall 15 at the partner country's stand.Daimler-Benz Aerospace:
Hydrogen technology and the implementation of research results from the aerospace sectorDaimler-Benz Aerospace is presenting various activities from the space sector in Hall 18 under the motto "Hydrogen Technology You Can Touch." Among the displays are the main engine of the Ariane 5 and a 1:20 scale model of the rocket. Various cut-away models show functional parts such as valves and other technical details. Together with several of its partners, the Aircraft Division (DASA-Airbus GmbH) is presenting the Cryoplane hydrogen aircraft. Active participation on the part of visitors is one of the attractions at the model of the fueling station. In a variety of presentations, hydrogen technology is explained to trade fair visitors in an easy-to-follow manner, .
Mercedes-Benz
MB 700: a product of German-Indonesian cooperationMercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles has devoted all of Hall D12 - a tent on the grounds adjacent to Hall 15 - to the partner country of this year's Hannover Trade Fair. Together with PT German Motor Manufacturing, Mercedes-Benz is showing the MB 700 light truck as an example of successful German-Indonesian cooperation.
