Since July 1989, Mercedes-Benz has been responsible for the entire motor vehicle business within the Daimler-Benz group.
At December 31, 1994 the company employed some 147,100 people at its twelve domestic passenger car and commercial vehicle plants, in its 43 company-owned sales and service outlets and at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz AG. Including the production and sales companies outside Germany, some 197,500 people throughout the group worked for "the youngest German motor manufacturer with the longest tradition" at the end of December 1994. Mercedes-Benz is a global player with more than 50 production and assembly plants and some 6,200 sales and service outlets throughout the world. The vehicles with the three-pointed star are sold in more than 170 countries.
