Dual-circuit braking system; fixed caliper disc brakes front and rear, foot-operated parking brake on rear wheels; antilock braking system (ABS).. Shock absorber strut independent front suspension with wishbones and anti-dive control; multi-link independent rear suspension with five links per wheel; anti-squat and anti-lift control; Optional: automatic locking differential (ASD, only for six-cylinder models); accelaration skid control (ASR, only with automatic transmission; standard in the SL 500 and SL 600). Two coil springs and a torsion bar stabiliser front and rear; two shock absorber struts at the front, and two gas-pressure shock absorbers at the rear. Optional: self-levelling suspension front and rear with adaptive damping system (ADS) (standard in the SL 600).
