Ultrasonic parking aid

A newly developed ultrasonic parking aid, now also available for the S-class, substantially facilitates parking. The system operates on the echo-sounding principle. Depending on the direction of travel, six sensors in the front bumper or four in the rear send ultrasonic signals, which are reflected by other vehicles or obstacles. On the basis of the time-lag between the emission and reception of the signal, the electronic system calculates how far away the obstacle is. Displays on the left and in the centre of the dashboard, as well as at the rear of the roof, inform the driver of the amount of parking or manoeuvring space available.
