The car was not even ten years old when, on July 22, 1894, the first motor race took place. Since then, Mercedes-Benz have often faced up to the direct competition on the racing circuits of the world.
Here our love of perfection comes into its own. We are only happy when things cannot be improved any further. Or when we have achieved success.
For some years now, our cars have been back on the circuit, meeting with their customary success. For instance in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), where in 1995, the 309 kW / 420 hp racing versions of the C-class are lining up at the start.
In Formula 1, too, the best is just good enough. Since the beginning of the 1995 season, the new three-litre V10 engines from Mercedes-Benz have been powering the cars entered by McLaren, the most successful Formula 1 team of all times with seven world championship titles and 104 victories to its credit.
Mercedes-Benz are also involved in the most famous US motor racing championship, the IndyCar series. The cars of the Penske Team are powered by our V8 engines to compete on the fastest tracks in the world. A 1994 "rehearsal" was crowned with success; Al Unser Jr. won the most important race in the world, the 500 Miles of Indianapolis. |
