Questionnaire Statistics

The questionnaires which are sent to us, are analyzed and the results are presented here.

1st April - 1st June Statistics

111 people have decided to fill in the questionnaire. We are still getting most answers from Northern Europe, but the number of mirrors have increased, and we still get mirrors from all over the world. The bug in Voyager has not been corrected in V2.88, so we also received some more bugged questionnaires. We still hope to receive more questionnaires, and more articles to our articles section.

1. Do you work professionaly with computers ?

We were expecting that the the number of professionals would drop after May. But insted it have increased with 1 % to 41 %. This shows that there is a market for the A\Box where the big money is. This is also good news for the developers. 35 % use computers in their studies. I bet they would like to study an A\Box ; ) While only 24 % does not work professionaly with their computer.

2. What computer do you own ?

100 of the 111 had an Amiga. So there is no doubt that the Amiga-enthusiasts are the number one target group for Phase 5, when they start selling those boxes. But 43 people owned a PC, so it looks like they have started to open their eyes too. Only 9 people had a Mac, and 5 people a Unix based computer. Some people didn't have a computer at all.

3. Average skill-level

The average skill-level is at 3,93. (0 - 5) It's still high, something that might be explained by that you need to know quite a lot about computers to know why the A\Box is better than the other computers out on the market. Especially hardware knowledge.

4. What do you usually use your computer to ?

In the last month the use of internet have grown to be as much used as graphics. The high number of people that use their computer to graphics, can be explained by the number of people that use the Amiga. Now that more PC users have sent their questionnaires, we see that it get more balanced to areas where the PC is more used than the Amiga. The A\Box is a computer for high-end graphics. And it suits these people well. 88 of the 111, used their computer to graphics. It was also 88 people that used their computer usually to internet, something that the ISDN based A\Box should handle with no problem. Only 6 people used it to CAD.

5. What programs do you want to use on your A\Box?

Graphics is still in the lead, but internet programs are much closer now. A lot of people seem to have discovered how great video-editing will be on the A\Box. Computer games really looks like they can have a market on the A\Box. 89 of the 111 people want to play games on their A\Box. And the most popular games on the PC is wanted !

6. Will you buy an A\Box?

The number of people who don't think they will buy an A\Box have increased to 7 %. No one have answered a certain No ! Most people have made up their mind though... 61 % said YES. While some people (32 %) are still wondering if they should spend money on a this computer. Some of the reasons to why Amiga owners don't want the A\Box is the bad reputation Phase 5 with their delayments, combined with the launch of the Pios-one computers. Even if the Pios-One can't offer something as revolutionary as the A\Box, it's easier to believe in Pios than Phase 5 at this moment.

7. What type will you buy ?

Over 2 of 3 future A\Box buyers wants to go for the 604e. It's hard to make a proper statistic of this, since they haven't made any official models and prices. But this shows that people are willing to pay more to get a more powerful computer. Another thing that we discovered was that the people who wasn't sure if they wanted to buy an A\Box choosed the 603e, while the people who were sure that they would buy an A\Box, choosed the 604e. Maybe Phase 5 should forget the 603e, and just produce the 604e ?

8. Importance of well known programs?

Looks like most people can live without it (39 %). So the A\Box can maybe be able to survive even if the big developers don't get their eyes on the A\Box, if software piracy is kept at a minimum. The Amiga owners don't care so much about the important programs as much as the PC owners. Probably because they know that the cheap programs can be as good as the big and well known programs, and are also less used to these types of programs. The opinion about this can still be discussed

9. Specific programs?

If the developers of Lightwave haven't started to look at the A\Box yet. They shouldn't wait too long. It's the most wanted program to the A\Box in our questionnaire.

Other programs included : Soft-Image, Alias Power-animator, Adobe Photoshop, DPaint. Photogenics, Octamed, Scala, ImageFX, Dopus, Thor, Miami, Amos, Phxass, AsmOne, MS Office (ouch !), Red Alert, Colonization 2, Imagine, SWOS, TVPaint, AmIRC, YAM, Real 3D, CUbase, Tempest, Netscape, Infochannel, Storm C++, Omnis and lots more.

10. Shareware Importance?

71 % think it is very important. 27 % thinks it's important, while only 2 % answered that they could live without it. No one answered that shareware wasn't necessary at all. This shows how important Shareware is for the platform. Especially for the non-professionals. We all hope for lots of shareware for the A\Box.
