Industry Leaders Look To Secure Sockets Layer for Internet Security

In their latest news release, Netscape Communications Corporation announced that a number of industry-leading companies and organizations are supportive of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for Internet security. Apple Computer, Inc., Bank of America, ConnectSoft, Delphi Internet Services Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, First Data Corporation, IBM, MarketNet, MasterCard International Inc., MCI Communications Corp., Microsoft Corporation, Novell, Inc., Open Market, Prodigy, Silicon Graphics, Inc., StarNine, Sun Microsystems, Inc., Visa International, and Wells Fargo are among companies backing SSL.


New: Netscape unveils Netscape Navigator 1.1

We are proud to announce that a beta version of Netscape Navigator 1.1 is now available. Check out the press release and demo page that describe many of the new features which make this the most powerful Web browser ever. See also the release notes appropriate to the version you are interested in: Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX.

We encourage everyone to place an order for Netscape Navigator 1.0, the fully supported version of our product -- also check out our killer Netsite servers. (All licensed Netscape Navigator 1.0 customers will be automatically licensed for version 1.1 when it is officially released.)

SSLRef, Netscape's SSL reference implementation, is available now and is free for non-commercial use, -- please see here for full details.


Netscape Accelerates Standards Efforts...

Netscape recently announced several significant efforts it has taken to continue to remain open, non-proprietary and interoperable. The press release includes information highlighting a Secure Sockets Layer protocol reference implementation, the Netscape Client Application Programmers Interface (NCAPI), and ongoing relationships with key technology partners.

In addition to the information contained within the press release, Netscape maintains documents that can help inform you of the requirements and solutions associated with security and commerce on the Internet. The document On Security gives you an introduction to security issues concerning the WWW and the Internet. Internet Data Security details the current security implementation available in Netscape's 1.0 products. Finally, the highly technical SSL Specification is available. To inquire about licensing Netscape Communication's reference implementation of SSL, comment on the SSL specification or ask questions about security mail to: ssl-talk-request@netscape.com with the word "subscribe" in the subject line or the body of the message.


Version 1.0 Products Now Available!!!

Check out the press release that describes availability and pricing for the new products. The new version is available from several download sites. The Netscape Navigator 1.0N should be used according to the license agreement included with the program - it's free to academic and non-profit users and free for evaluation use by others. We encourage everyone to place an order for Netscape Navigator 1.0, the fully supported version of our product.
