Netsite
Network
Server
Software
Now you can easily conduct commerce and distribute information over the
Internet and other IP-based networks. Netsite server software enhances, and
in some cases radically changes, the way organizations, publishers and
information providers communicate with existing and potential customers, and
just about everybody else. Whether your network is large or small, public or
private, Netsite servers can help your organization provide compelling
multimedia content to an online audience. In cyberspace. Around the globe.
Netsite opens a world of new media applications, such as online publishing,
interactive shopping, and distance learning. It also allows organizations to
generate new business through online marketing and sales and to reduce costs
by distributing information to customers, employees, and partners more
efficiently. The Netsite line includes two products available for UNIX-based
platforms: the Netsite Communications Server and the Netsite Commerce
Server.
Netsite
Communications
Server
Netsite Communications Server is designed for applications which don't require
advanced security features, such as the delivery of online marketing
materials or customer support information to customers, or communications to
employees. The Communications Server uses HTTP/1.0 access
authorization, but does not support data encryption or server
certification.
The Netsite Communications Server offers three primary advantages over other
HTTP-based servers:
- IT'S FAST:
Netsite delivers multimedia documents several times faster than other HTTP-based servers and handles peak loads without a blink.
- IT'S EFFICIENT:
Netsite is an order of magnitude more efficient than other HTTP-based servers in its use of CPU capacity allowing you to get full value out of your investments in hardware and communications infrastructure.
- IT'S EASY TO USE:
QuickStart installation gets you up and running in minutes, with configuration and maintenance through intuitive, online forms.
The Netsite Communications Server has an end user price of $1495.

Netsite
Commerce
Server
The Netsite Commerce Server is the first HTTP-compatible server designed for
the conduct of electronic commerce, including online transactions, and the
exchange of sensitive documents over networks. Its advanced security features
make distributing confidential information to a select audience or accepting
both orders and payment online simple and secure.
The Commerce Server adds bulletproof security to the feature set of the
Communications Server. Netscape Communications' implementation of public-key
cryptographic technology from RSA Data Security Inc. provides:
- Data encryption, which ensures the privacy of client/server communications by encrypting the data stream between the two entities, and
- Server authentication which uses a certificate and a digital signature to verify identity of the server.
The Netsite Commerce Server makes commerce over the Internet private and
secure. It will be available in November 1994 at an end user price of
$5,000.
