Welcome to the premier World Wide Web exhibition of Ansel Adams: Fiat Lux. A brief introductory essay, About Ansel Adams: Fiat Lux, gives the background on how Ansel Adams accepted the challenge to produce a "current portrait" of the University of California for the Centennial celebration in 1968.
We have also included curator Melinda Wortz's essay, Ansel Adams and the University of California, from the exhibition catalogue as well as the chronology compiled by James Alinder, An Ansel Adams Chronology. Both of these documents have links to photographs by Ansel Adams.
The exhibition is organized into five major areas: Northern UC Campuses, Southern UC Campuses, Agricultural Centers and Field Stations, Natural Reserve System, and Organized Research Units. If you are an alumnus of the UC system you might want to visit your campus first. Astronomers should not miss the Radio Astronomy Laboratory: Hat Creek or Lick Observatory photographs.
We also encourage you to visit the exhibition bookstore. In addition to the exhibition catalogue and posters from the Fiat Lux exhibition we have assembled a complete selection of all of the Museum Graphic Note Cards featuring Ansel Adams' finest photographs as well as the entire line of books and posters published by Little Brown and Company - The Bulfinch Press. All of these items are offered for sale; we invite your electronic order.
The exhibtion could not have taken place without the hard work and dedication of many colleagues working together. We acknowledge their contributions.
Enjoy the exhibition. Comments and suggestions are welcome, and should be directed to:
