FML History

History of the FML


The laboratory was founded in 1969 to offer junior scientists a possibility to work on research projects of their own in Independent Research Groups. The Heads of Research Groups are elected by a Committee of Experts on the basis of a public tendering procedure. They are then offered employment contracts for a term of five years. Over that period of time, they can use modern, well-equipped laboratories and work in teams tailored to their ideas. Irrespective of this independence, the Group Leaders agree to manage jointly the funds available to the Laboratory in order to ensure their efficient use. This procedure has worked well so far.
