The FLY LAB is one out of four biological research groups at the Friedrich-Miescher-Laboratory and is headed by Alexander Borst. The FLY LAB works on the
visual system of the blowfly Calliphora erythrocephala and studies how visual motion information is processed at the
level of identified neurons and small neuronal circuits. The work combines experimental and theoretical analysis (in vivo, in vitro and in
silico) at various levels of complexity ranging from the membrane properties and pharmacology of individual neurons up to simple motion driven reflexes
observed in behavior. The goal of the work is to gain an understanding of the functional impact single cell properties have for the information processing of the
circuit as a whole.
