How Will This Minor Help Me In The Job Market?

Employees need people who can function in a technological world. You'll need computer skills to perform basic job responsibilities and communicate with your peers. Students completing this minor will be able to function as the "Computer Specialist" within their domain of expertise.

What Qualifications Do I Need to Enter The Program?

The minor is open to all majors. This minor will not require extensive math or programming skills. To start the program, you will need to have taken either CS-109 or CS-210 or have equivalent knowledge of either of these courses.

  • CS 117 - Computer Based system - This course presents an in-depth study of the latest trends in hardware and software.

  • CS 118 - Fundamentals of Programming - You'll get a basic understanding of programming.

  • CS 206 - End User Computing Analysis - You'll study the management issues of technology including analyzing applications and implementing technology.

  • CS 207 - Network Based Computing - You'll explore the ins and outs of local area network installation and operation.

  • CS 308 - Practicum - You'll put all your computer technology knowledge together and work on a real-world problem.

    Even if you are not interested in the minor, you will want to take some of the Computer Skills Courses as one-hour electives.
    CS 107 Operating Systems/Windows CS 112 - Database
    Knowledge of an operating system is basic to computer proficiency. This course provides information on two popular operating systems: DOS and Windows. Computerize your files with databses. Learn to access public databases and resources electronically to assist you in research.
    CS 108 Word Processing CS 113 Desktop Publishing
    This is a must for everyone. No matter what job you have, you will need to produce letters, reports, and electronic messages using word processing. Would you like to produce brochures, newsletters, fliers, posters, or any other document with a professional typeset appearance? Desktop publishing skills will do it.
    CS 111 SpeadsheetsCS 114 Business Graphics
    Learn to Combine text, mathematical computations, and graphs using spreadsheets. If you need to prepare a budget, analyze costs, or prepare your income tax return then display the results graphically; it's easy with spreadsheet skills. Do you need to make a presentation? Wow your audience with stunning visuals and graphics or a computerized multimedia presentation.
