Developer Network News Special Section - Professional Developers Conference

PDC QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Don't build dead pages. Build living models."

Douglas Adams, author

All week March 12-15, Developer Network News has reported direct from Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference on building Internet applications. Our redoubtable developer answer-man, Dr. GUI, files a daily journal on the personalities and hot new ActiveX™ technologies reshaping the Internet and the PC this week. In PDC Gallery, meet some of the thousands of developers packing San Francisco’s Moscone Center. PDC At A Glance links you to in-depth conference news, technical background and The BUZZ.

Calibrating the Range

by Dr. GUI
March 14, 1996
San Francisco

The Redmondian code physician spent most of the hours between midnight and 6 a.m.Thursday dreaming of the lobster tail he had devoured at a delightful little seafood restaurant down on Fisherman's Wharf. The Riesling was cool and slightly sweet, the crustacean tender and succulent, the potato fluffy and butter-drenched, the conversation invigorating, and, best of all, the bill was on Bill.

Dr. GUI arrived at Moscone just in time to ensconce himself in the 34th row, not more than a couple of hundred developers distant from the podium, around which paced Douglas Adams.

Douglas Adams is Dr. GUI's hero.
