What you need to run Internet Information Server

You must have a legally licensed copy of Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.51 with Service Pack #3 (SP 3) installed in order to install Internet Information Server.

If you are running the Non-English (Localized) Version of Windows NT Server 3.51

Before installing this release of Internet Information Server on a non-English version of Windows NT Server version 3.51, you must ensure Windows NT Service Pack #3 is installed for the particular language version in use. You can get these service packs by downloading them here or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary to obtain this update before installing Internet Information Server.
Note: Do not attempt to install the English version of the
Windows NT version 3.51 Service Pack 3 on a non-English platform.

If you are running any English Version of Windows NT Server 3.51

All English versions of Windows NT Server can use the English version of the Windows NT Service Pack #3.

If you are in the United States or Canada and do not want to download the Service Pack over the Internet

Enabling Secure Sockets Layer (encrypted communication on Internet Information Server)

In order to enable the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) cryptographic feature of Internet Information Server you must purchase a signed digital certificate from a Certificate Authority. Verisign has all the instructions for you to acquire a signed digital certificate. If you want to ensure the integrity of the SSL binaries included with IIS, you should purchase the CD verrsion of the product from your reseller.
