Telephony Industry Embraces Windows NT Server
March 13, 1996 - Windows NT Server provides a strong telephony development platform. This was affirmed when more than 40 developers announced new products based on Windows NT Server at the Computer Telephony Conference on March 12th. The telephony application programming interface (TAPI), currently included in Windows 95, will be included in the forthcoming release of Windows NT Server 4.0 and Windows NT Workstation 4.0, as TAPI version 2.0. This represents the first time computer telephony capabilities have been integrated into a mainstream server operating system.

March 4, 1996 - Microsoft Corp., along with 3Com Corp., Ascend Communications, ECI Telematics and U.S. Robotics, today announced point-to-point tunneling protocol (PPTP), a new networking technology that supports multiprotocol virtual private networks (VPN), enabling remote users to access corporate networks securely across the Internet.
Windows NT 4.0 Beta Receives Positive Review in PC Week
The Februrary 12 issue of PC Week included a first look review of the beta 1 version of Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft's latest Windows NT offering. PC Week Labs highlighted the new version for its improved usability as well as connectivity with both NetWare and TCP/IP networks. The review also cited positive improvements in the areas of Internet integration, hardware support and remote communications.
Windows NT Server 3.51 Resource Kit and IIS get Brilliant Nod for Integration
In the March issue of Windows Magazine, John Ruley devotes his column to discussing the Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Resource Kit and Internet Information Server. He gives Microsoft the "brilliant" nod this month for integrating Web support into its network operating system. Ruley says IIS is so easy to install that he had it set up in less than 15 minutes, and got a set of demo queries working with Microsoft SQL Server in 10 minutes.
InfoWorld RAS Review Picks Windows NT Server For Mixed ShopsTools
In February, InfoWorld compared the remote access services of Microsoft Windows NT Server and Novell NetWare. Windows NT Server came out in front for overall rating (7.0 vs. 6.8) and was picked for best installation/configuration & support policies. The review noted that Windows NT Server was "consistently faster than NetWare Connect on the Windows 95 client."
