HP Targets The Growing Small-Business Market With New Products, Marketing Initiatives
Palo Alto, California. March 11, 1996
Hewlett-Packard Company
today announced a series of new products and planned marketing
initiatives aimed at small-business/small-office professionals.
In summary, HP announced the following:
- It is initiating the first steps in a long-range
strategic plan to become the information technology
vendor of choice for small-business/small-office
professionals, a market segment HP defines as businesses
with one to 100 employees lacking on-site MIS
(management information system) support.
- It is defining and servicing the
small-business/small-office market with a complete range
of computing products (PCs, peripherals,
workgroup-connectivity hardware), and planned services
and support programs specifically tailored to meet that
market's specialized requirements.
- It is introducing what it says is the industry's first
PC series specifically designed and configured for
small businesses -- the HP Vectra 500 PC family. The
new PCs are being sold this month through U.S.
commercial resellers, value-added resellers and
traditional computer dealers.
- It is teaming up with Microsoft to deliver new
computing solutions and planned programs aimed at the
small-business market, including the HP & Microsoft
Small Business Center, a complete hardware and software
PC solution for small business.
- It is adding the ScanJet 4P color scanner and OfficeJet
Series 300 printer-fax-copier-scanner family to HP's
growing list of affordable hardcopy products for small
businesses, currently including the LaserJet 5P laser
printer and the DeskJet 850 color inkjet printers.
- It is introducing the HP AdvanceStack High-Speed Network
Bundle (hub, PCI adapters and cables) to meet the
increasing need of small businesses that require
high-speed connectivity for demanding applications such
as multimedia, imaging and video. The bundle is
scheduled to ship in May.
