       2. Installation_Information

This chapter lists supplemental information to the IRIS
Software Installation Guide. The information listed here is
product-specific; use it with the Installation Guide to
       install this product.

       2.1 4Dgifts_Subsystems

The 4Dgifts subsystem includes these subsystems:

       4Dgifts.src.basicw Basic 4Dgifts gift account --
                                     mostly user self
                                     administration stuff. Install
                                     this first.

       4Dgifts.src.full 4Dgifts full gift source --
                                     the majority of examples as
                                     source. The name full is
                                     partly a misnomer (legacy). As
                                     we reorganize the 4Dgifts
                                     package the notion of ``full''
will go away an be replaced by
                                     a beter focused set of
                                     subsystems..

       4Dgifts.src.iristools 4Dgifts iristools gift source
                                     -- iristools examples as
                                     source

       2.2 4Dgifts_Subsystem_Disk_Space_Requirements

This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
       4Dgifts option.

If you are installing this option for the first time, the
subsystems marked ``default'' are the ones that are
installed if you use the ``go'' menu item. To install a
different set of subsystems, use the ``install,''
``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in inst to
customize the list of subsystems to be installed, then
       select the ``go'' menu item.

Note: The listed subsystem sizes are approximate. Refer to
the IRIS Software Installation Guide for information
              on finding exact sizes.

       Subsystem Name Subsystem Size

       4Dgifts.src.iristools 1993

       2.3 Installation_Method

This section lists the installation method for the 4Dgifts
subsystems. Refer to the IRIS Software Installation Guide
       for complete installation instructions.

       Subsystem Name Method of Installation
       4Dgift.*.* IRIX

       2.4 Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites enforced by the installation
tool. All subsystems in 4Dgifts tend to assume that
4Dgifts.src.basic is installed. Other subsystems may depend
on a specific compiler to compile. Also, other IDO options
that are relied upon are "c", "dev", "gl_dev", "motif_dev",
       and "x_dev".

       3. Changes_and_Additions

o Kermit has been removed from 4Dgifts due to licensing
issues. Kermit users may still get updates from
Columbia University. FTP sites are subject to change.
At the time of this release, one location is
watsun.cc.columbia.edu. Note that SGI does not
support, nor imply support of Kermit regardless of
            where source was obtained from.

o The examples/libaudio directory is no longer installed
by 4Dgifts. To get these examples, install the audio
examples from the Digital Media Developement Option.
This is a seperate option from IDO.

o The examples/devaudio directory has been removed.

o The wspace directory no longer installs FTR examples.
For information on writing FTR's, please refer to the
WorkSpace Integration Guide. There are now utilities to
assist in creating icons, such as /usr/sbin/iconsmith.
There are also online examples in /usr/lib/filetype.

o The .workspace directory no longer loads. The Indigo
Magic environment supercedes the workspace environment.
If you would like to see this envirnment in the 4Dgifts
login account, move .xsession and .chestrc to some
            other place.

o libgutil no longer contains a random() module. An
improved version is now in libc.

       4. Bug_Fix_highlights

o BUG 12208 - There is now a man page for SGI Image
            format images, man rgb.

o BUG 138058 - Change name of subsystem from
            dev.sw.4Dgifts.* to 4Dgifts.*

o BUG 121620 - There was a conflict between showfont from
            4Dgifts and X11R5.
            4Dgifts/examples/fontmanager/showfont.c has been
renamed to be fmshowfont.c To reflect the SGI
            fontmanager aspects of this sample.

o BUG 145316 - Hist dumps core due to uninitialized
variable. Note that ``rld'' can leave cruft on the
stack. Programs cannot assume in main() that the stack
is clean. Thus bad style could now bite users as it
            did us.

o BUG The snapshot(6D) button window can be moved by
using the ALT key with the RIGHTMOUSE button or "F"
            keys.

          o BUG The input example
            examples/devices/input/test/inputtest.c now compiles.

o BUG 134442 - fromgif can now process files in the
            GIF89a format.

       5. Known_Problems_and_Workarounds

o The 'knobs' program under examples/devices does not
behave according to the README file.

o The following directories load with incorrect ownership
            : OpenGL/toogl, bin, examples/glpg/ch[01-18]. The
files in these directories do load with correct
permissions. To work around permission problems for
compiling in these directories, change the ownerto
            "4Dgifts" with "guest" as group.
