Elidor and the Golden Ball
Many years ago there was a young boy named Elidor who had
chosen to hide from his teacher at the bank of a river. After some time of hiding there he
was approached by two men of small size who told him they would lead him to a most
wonderful country.
Elidor followed, and soon the path they took led into a
beautiful place, where he was taken before the king of that land and introduced before the
court. After some time of examining the boy the king sent Elidor to his son, who was of a
similar age. Elidor often traveled between this world and the other, though he confided
his secret only to his mother.
In time Elidor's mother wished for her son to bring back
some of the gold which was abundant in the other land. When he was next there and at play
with the king's son he stole a golden ball and then quickly made his way home. But just as
he reached his house and was hurrying inside he stumbled, and as he dropped the ball it
was snatched away by the two tiny men.
Elidor was filled with shame and he sought to return to the
other land, but he searched for the path for nearly a year and was unable to find it
again. In time he settled back into his life and became a priest, but he could never speak
of the events of his childhood without shedding tears.
