I was not at the game, however, this is some information that I have heard about it and a story that appeared in the UW-La Crosse school paper. Thanks --Rob Anderson-- The UW-La Crosse football team dominated every facet of the game in its 56-0 defeat of the University of Huron, SD. The Eagles scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in the first half en route to a 35-0 lead at halftime. One minute into the game, junior Mike Scheuer scooped up a Huron fumble and returned it 28 yards for the score. The first offensive series was also successful as senior Jeff Baker connected with sophomore Mike winters on a 19 yard touchdown pass to cap a six play, 64 yard drive. Senior John Barrett turned the game into a rout when he returned a Huron punt 63 yards to give UW-L a 21-0 lead. Barrett hit paydirt again when he caught Baker’s second scoring strike of the day. UW-L scored again when senior Ryan Shaver blasted his way into the endzone with a three-yard run to give the Eagles a 35 point lead at the half. Head coach Roger Harring was pleased with the first half. “Huron wasn’t as strong as they were Ý last year, but I was very happy with the way we came out with good intensity,” Harring said. Baker destroyed any thoughts of a Huron comeback when he scored on a 10-yard run and hit Barrett with an 82-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. The big lead game coach Harring a chance to test the depth of his ball club. “We got all the kids a chance to play and saw a lot from the reserves. It was a great team victory,” Harring said. Sophomore Jared Arn completed the scoring for UW-L with an 11-yard jaunt. Senior Thad Dugan topped off a perfect day with the extra-point to give the Eagles the 56-0 win. Dugan was a perfect 8-8 kicking on the day. Next up for the Eagles is the first conference game of the year. UW-Stout (1-1) comes into town to face the 2-0 Eagles on Saturday. Due to the Oktoberfest activities, the game will start at 3pm at Veterans Memorial Field. “Everyone is looking forward to the conference opener. Stout has a solid passing game and will be a good match-up,” Harring said. Jared Arn 17-91 yds. and a touchdown Ryan Shaver had a rushing touchdown also. WR's Mike Winters 4-47 and a td John Barrett 2-104 and 2 tds Jeff Peterson 1-26 yds. Special Teams Thad Dugan 8-8 extra points John Barrett returned a punt for a 60? yd. touchdown Defense Alex Wheat led UW-L with 7 tackles John Wilson had 6 tackles and 2 sacks Ric Mathias had an interception for the second game in a row Mike Scheuer returned a fumble for a touchdown on the second play from scrimmage. UW-L offense finished with 597 yards total. It was 28-0 after the first quarter, and then UW-La Crosse scored to make it 35-0 with 14:40 left in the second quarter. It was 49-0 after three quarters. Everyone on the travel roster played except for third string QB Ryan Larson.
