About our institute

Our institute was founded in 1954 as the MPI für Virusforschung. The focus of research gradually shifted to developmental biology, and the institute was renamed MPI für Entwicklungsbiologie in 1984.

We have five independent departments covering diverse areas of developmental biology. The staff consists of 123 employees (29 of them scientists), 24 PhD and diploma students, and 44 guest scientists. Prof. Dr. Peter Hausen is Geschäftsführender Direktor (managing director).
