First of all some general tips for railroading in the Netherlands:
- The prices are moderate and (with very few exceptions) all trains have the same price.
- In order to get infomation about schedules, prices, and other things you can call 06-9292. This services is available from 7 am till 12 pm for 0.50 fl per minute.
- As the Netherlands are not so big, there are no return tickets for different days but there exists a day-return.
- There are no numbered seats in the second or first class. Thus there are no reservations for those.
- Trains are categorized into three classes Stoptrein, Sneltrein and Intercity. Stoptreins are the slowest because they (as the name says it) stop at almost every windmill. Sneltrein and Intercity go to bigger and larger towns.
- Handicapped and disabled people can expect a lot of help. Most stations have a mobile ramp to aid boarding the train. Unfortunately this has to be reserved at least 24 hours before departure.
- Bicycles can be transported in almost every train. The price for a ride is 9.- fl.
- Traintaxi is a service of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen which allows you to use a taxi from a station to a destination. Some rules are mentioned here.
- And now the fun part :-) a picture with the lines and the approximate travel times.
