Mercedes-Benz are not only committed to the star which is the trademark of our cars. We are also committed to the planet on which we live - and we take this commitment equally seriously. A car's environment-friendly features are defined as early as the development stage. Right from the start, our engineers consider the possibilities of saving resources, minimising pollutant emissions and ensuring the lowest possible environmental impact the car might have. It is a question of thinking of the end of a car's life right at the beginning to ensure that at the end of the road, as much as possible of the car can be re-used or recycled.
- All plastic parts weighing more than 100 grams are marked to enable segregated recycling.
- The aim in development is to increase the use of regenerable materials which can be re-used for the production of secondary products.
- Up to 95 % of the lead, sulphuric acid and plastics contained in batteries can be re-used.
- Floor mats, glove compartments and many other components are already made of recycled materials.
- Our research into reducing the environmental impact of the painting process began back in 1983 - with the result that virtually all of the solvents used in painting can today be recovered.
- In a few years' time, we will have completely changed over to water-based paints.
- To reduce the volume of waste materials to be dumped and to save valuable raw materials, Mercedes-Benz takes back old catalytic converters.
