Music
The UCI Bookstore has one of the largest classical music
collections in Southern California, with over 30,000 CDs and
tapes representing the full gamut of composers, periods,
interpretations and styles. Our music buyer, Connie Gunderson
(cgunders@uci.edu), does a great job of combining thorough,
varied coverage of the standard repertoire with selections
which you might not have heard of but which open you up to
a whole new area of music once you listen to them.
Japanese EMI has initiated a splendid reissue program of Pacific Jazz
recordings from the early 1950s output of this trail blazing West Coast record
firm. Here are six releases from this series.
On a regular basis, we'll be featuring important new releases by jazz
musicians in this space. This new Miles Davis set is our first treatment in
this continuing series.
Here's a thoughtful side-by-side
The Bookstore is also expanding its coverage of jazz, with a
philosophy that's less encyclopedic and more selective.
is our first major exhibit in the jazz field. Discover West Coast jazz
through the eyes of lensman Ray Avery, who found his way into the
nightclubs, recording studios, and Lighthouses of the 1950s. The exhibition
also offers a discography of
West Coast jazzmen, with record covers and
samples of the music; all the CDs, books and calendars, are, of course,
available from the UCI Bookstore.
And,
our ZOTROCK store offers a dedicated selection of, in its own words:

OUR SPECIALTY: 'any 'genre 'which 'has '-core 'as 'a 'suffix
For the adventurous, 79,000 of our books and CDs are
searchable via an experimental WAIS search.
In the near
future, watch this WWW site for exhibits in jazz and classical music,
including a tour of 50's Los Angeles jazz clubs and a comparative
review of classical CD guides. Our Gopher server offers up-to-date listings
of the newest classical releases, as well as soon-to-be expanded sections
on jazz and alternative music.
We invite your electronic order.
