The Barricades
On Monday 21 August, Aux Barricades ! is cried from the headlines of the
first editions of the newspapers Le Parisien Libéré, Libération,
and Défense de la France..
By the time Paris was liberated on 25 August, there were roughly 600 of them throughout the city.
(Barricades are designated as short black lines on the
map of the attack.)
Action at the barricade on the rue St Jacques.
Ordinary citizens of Paris, together with members of the Resistence
(the FFI - Force Français d'Interieur) built and manned them.
