Usage Statistics for NLM HyperDOC

Welcome to the Webinfo system, which provides usage statistics for NLM HyperDOC. Note that this system is still under development, so you may encounter anomalous behavior from time to time. Please report problems and share suggestions via the HyperDOC suggestion box.

NLM HyperDOC has been operational since October 1993 and (as of midnight last night) has serviced 6290414 requests from 283059 unique hosts (these numbers, as well as the numbers appearing in plots and reports generated by Webinfo, are subject to the errors that are detailed in the technical notes appearing below).

Technical notes

Due to software problems, access data for selected time periods is missing or incomplete. The missing connections counts should be added to the total number of connections made to this service (as reported above); it is not known by how much the missing host counts increase the total number of unique hosts that have contacted the service (as reported above).

12-13 August 1995
By simple linear interpolation, using data from the same days-of-the-week prior to and following the days with missing data, we estimated that 27,253 connections from 2,910 hosts went unrecorded.
7 August 1995
By simple linear interpolation, using data from the same days-of-the-week prior to and following the days with missing data, we estimated that 24,430 connections from 2,400 hosts went unrecorded.
1-3 April 1995
By simple linear interpolation, using data from the same days-of-the-week prior to and following the days with missing data, we estimated that 47,597 connections from 4,039 hosts went unrecorded.
1-17 March 1995
By aggregating weekly data for three weeks prior to and one week following this period (4-10, 11-17, 18-24, and 18-24 March) and performing a linear regression on the host and connection data, we estimated that 299,769 connections from 27,430 hosts went unrecorded.
Other brief periods where access statistics appear low (for example, 22-23 April 1995) are due to network access problems that prevented sites outside of NLM from connecting to HyperDOC. Other sudden drops in apparent usage are due to planned and unplanned power outages at NLM.
