National Aeronautics and Space Administration
When Congress created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in
1958, it directed the NASA Administrator to do three things:
- Conduct aeronautical and space "activities."
- Create a science program using aeronautical and space vehicles.
- Inform the public as widely as possible about agency activities and their benefits.
We are pleased to now add the Internet as a means for dissemination of
information to the public. This site is currently under construction,
however we wanted to provide you with as much information as possible as it
becomes available. Please come back and visit; we anticipate many additional
upgrades.

- Welcome This is a good place to begin your journey.
Start by reading a letter from NASA Administrator, Dan Goldin, or NASA's
Strategic Plan. Check out our user's tips to help you get the most out of
what we have to offer. If you have been here before try "what's new" with
the Public Affairs Homepage. If you are interested in the international
Space Station we have also provided a link to their WWW server.
- Apollo 11 We are kicking off this special
"rotating" section with a look at the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon. Travel
back 25 years through time as you view a short movie, look at some old
images, or listen to some audio clips. Also included in this exhibit are the
press releases, press kits, and other materials that made history.
- Newsroom Find out the latest news from America's
aeronautics and space agency. The newsroom will contain: press kits, press
releases, official statements, biographies, fact sheets, and status reports.
"Today at NASA" will present a look ahead at the major events happening at
NASA. During Shuttle missions be sure look in this section as we post key
mission activities.
- Events Are you interested in attending a launch of
the Space Shuttle? Or the in-flight activities of the astronauts? Then this
is your place. NASA also has a very active
exhibit and speaker schedule. Who knows? A moon rock or rocket scientist
may be coming to a location near you. There are also many other interesting
special events, so we have provided schedule of those.
- This is NASA Find out about NASA's five major
program areas: Mission to Planet Earth, Space Flight, Aeronautics, Scientific
Research, and Technology Development.
- History Learn about NASA's rich history, from it's
beginnings in 1915 as the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics to
today. Key documents about our air and space heritage are archived here,
including information about the men and women that have pushed back the
barriers of knowledge. Enjoy our collection of mission patches or travel to
the many installations around the world that make up NASA to learn about
their history. Our timeline and collection of statistics is an excellent
resource for those tough historical questions.
- Questions & Answers Have you ever wondered how a
wing works? Or how to become an astronaut? We will be maintaining the "Top
Ten" questions and answers along with many others. A collection of usenet
newsgroups will also be provided. If all else fails, try the subject search
to find the information that interests you.
- Education NASA feels strongly about using its
inspiring mission, unique facilities, and specialized workforce to promote
excellence in America's educational system. This area is especially designed
for the educator or student, in it we include a link to SpaceLink.
- Library The library maintains a searchable photo,
movie, and audio archive.
- Go To Explore the rest of what NASA has to offer on
the WWW through links to NASA centers and program offices. We have also
provided links to other space agencies.
