As one of the large national research institutes for computer science in Europe, GMD focusses on several research areas which are relevant to applications. Presently these research areas are:

Jointly with the University of Bonn, GMD is looking for a
Director of the System Design Technology Institute
located in Sankt Augustin. This position is connected with the position of a
University Professor (C4) for Computer Science
at the Department of Computer Science at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitaet Bonn.
Within national and international research projects, System Design Technology Institute (SET) is developing methods and prototypical tools in the areas of design methodology and automation of the design of embedded systems. An additional focus is adaptive systems.
Currently the institute comprises about 70 scientists, plus graduate and doctoral students, postdocs, and guests working in the following subjects
- Hardware/software codesign, verification, test
- Spezification and validation of reactive systems
- safe distributed real-time systems
- adaptive systems (machine learning, genetic algorithms),
- Fuzzy logic,
- Framework technology for concurrent engineering.
GMD intends to support new topical focusses in this general area.
GMD is looking for a internationally reputed person who is scientifically qualified for the leadership of SET. In addition, the applicant should have experience in managing a large research group in an international context and in carrying through cooperations with industry.
The position of the director of SET starts with a term of five years. This term can be extended. During the term the teaching requirements at the University of Bonn are partially waived.
