The Devs and Storage Drawers

Inside the Devs and storage drawers you will find 5 sub directories called:

  • DataTypes
  • DosDrivers
  • Keymaps
  • Monitors
  • Printers

The Devs Drawer contains active device drivers and the Storage drawer is for those drivers that are not being used.

 

 

Data Types

DataTypes are universal software files used by applications. The system comes with 6 Datatypes These are

8SVX
IFF sound files

AmigaGuide
Amiga Help Files

FTXT
IFF text files

ANIM
ANIM format animation files

CDXL
CDXL format files

ILBM
Standard Bitmap amiga picture files

Adding more can greatly increase the functionality of your system.

Take a look at other available DataTypes.


DOSDrivers

Dos Drivers are software drivers that extend the abilities of the OS. AmigaOS comes with 5 of these:

PC0/PC1
Allows for the mounting and usage of MSDOS formatted disks

CD0
CDrom driver for mounting of cdroms

PIPE
Pipe Driver

AUX
Auxiliary serial shell driver

RAD
Recoverable RAM disk driver.


KEYMAPS

Keymaps control how text characters are mapped into the Amiga keyboard. For any other Keymap to be availiable. The Keymap must be in the DEVS:/Keymaps drawer.


MONITORS

This Drawer contains the active monitor types. (defaults are NTSC/PAL)

PRINTERS

The Devs:/Prnters drawer holds your active printer drivers. default is the genaric printer driver.


Also found in the DEVS: drawer are the following files:

Device Files

Clipboard.device - Controls access to CLIPS:

Parallel.device - Controls access to the parallel port.

Printer.device - Controls access to the printer device.

Serial.device - Controls access to the serial port.

MFM.device - Controls access to MS-DOS disks with Cross-DOS

Other Files

System-configuration - Holds certain preferences configuration data needed when booting your Amiga.

Postscript_init.ps - Holds information needed to initalize a PostScript printer when using PrinterPS
