Installing Infrared Support
These 32-bit Infrared drivers must be installed on BOTH the portable and desktop systems.
- At the Windows 95 desktop screen, click Start from the lower left hand corner. Click the word Settings that appears on the menu. Click the words Control Panel to open it. In the Control Panel window, double click the Add New Hardware icon. At the Add New Hardware screen, click the Next button to continue.
- An Add New Hardware Wizard window appears, prompting you to have Windows search for the hardware. By default there should be a bullet mark next to Yes Recommended. To the left of the option box labeled No, click once beside it to place a bullet mark. Click the Next button at the bottom of the window to continue.
- On the next screen, select the hardware you wish to install. Scroll through the list of hardware components in the center of the screen. Click the word Infrared Devices to highlight it, then click the Next button at the bottom of the window to continue. If prompted for the Windows 95 CD disc, insert it in the CD-ROM drive and click the OK button on the screen to continue.
Note: If Infrared Devices is not present, please refer to the section of this document titled "Installing Infrared Support with W95IR.EXE". - A Infrared Installation Wizard is prompted, setting up a virtual COM port and LPT port for the infrared device. Click the Next button to continue.
- At the Add Infrared Device screen, prompts to select a manufacturer and model of your hardware.
Once the selection is made, click the Next button to continue.
On the Portable system - In the Manufacturers box, click once on (Standard Infrared devices) to highlight it. In the Model box, click once on Built-in Infrared port on Laptop or desktop to highlight it. On the Desktop system - In the Manufacturers box, click once on Extended Systems to highlight it. In the Model box, click once on JetEye PC Infrared Interface (ESI-9680) to highlight it. - An Add Infrared Device Wizard screen appears promoting for the port selection of the Infrared device. In the Select the port that this Infrared device is physically connected to box, click once on Generic IR Serial Port (COM 2) to highlight it. Note: This selection is the same on both the portable and desktop system. Click the Next button to continue.
- An Add Infrared Device Wizard screen appears promoting you to configure the ports to be used in Windows. By default there should be a bullet mark next to Use default ports. Click the Next button to continue.
- A New Hardware Device window appears. A message appears informing you that an Unknown device is locating the software for itself. A second New Hardware Device window appears displaying the virtual Infrared LPT port and initializing the software for it. Next, the New Hardware Device window re-appears informing you that an Unknown device is locating the software for itself. Next, the New Hardware Device window appears displaying the virtual Infrared serial port and initializing the software for it.
- 9. An Add Infrared Device Wizard window appears informing you that the Infrared device is setup successfully. Click the Finish button to complete the installation.
Installing Infrared Support with W95IR.EXE
To install Infrared support in Windows 95, the file W95IR.EXE from Microsoft’s BBS is required. The 32-bit Infrared drivers must be installed on BOTH the portable and desktop systems. The following installation assumes that the Infrared driver is extracted onto a diskette.e-mail to Technical Support.
- At the Windows 95 desktop screen, click Start from the lower left hand corner. Click the word Settings that appears on the menu. Click the word Control Panel to open it. In the Control Panel window, double click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Insert the diskette with the extracted files on it into the A: drive.
- Across the top of the Add/Remove Programs window are three tabs: Uninstall/Install, Windows Setup, and Startup Disk. Click the Uninstall/Install tab. In the upper right section of this tab, click the Install button to install the 32 bit Infrared drivers. An Install Program From Floppy disk or CD-ROM screen appears. Click the Next button to continue.
- On the next screen, the box labeled Command Line for Installation program should already have the path of the executable present. If the installation program is not present, type:
and click the Finish button to start the installation process. A Copying Files window appears displaying the files being copied to your hard drive.

- The Add Infrared Device Wizard screen appears prompting to set up a virtual COM port and LPT port for the infrared devices. Click the Next button to continue.
- At the Add Infrared Device screen, prompts to select a manufacturer and model of your hardware.
Once the selection is made, click the Next button to continue.
