McAfee today released one of the first Internet-centric antivirus products.
WebScanX protects corporate users against hostile ActiveX and Java applets, and Internet-borne viruses, said the firm. The program supports current and earlier versions of Microsoft and Netscape browsers.
WebScanX loads applets into a buffer, checks them against a list of known hostile programs, then deletes them if necessary. It can also scan e-mails for attached viruses.
The product comes as part of McAfee's VirusScan Security Suite which will retail this month at around £22 per user for a 100-user licence. Elements in the suite include VirusScan, PC Medic, QuickBackup, PCCrypto, NetCrypto, PCFirewall and SecureCast, a push technology-based program that can update the user's virus library.
McAfee can be contacted by telephone on 01344-304730.
