Primary IDE Controller Shows a Splat (!) When Using a SCSI Drive
Description of problem: After loading the bus mastering drivers on a system with a Thor, Tiger-eye, Aurora, Aladdin, Zappa, Mailman or Venus systemboard and SCSI hard drive(s), the Primary IDE controller displays a Splat (!) in the Device Manager. This issue is not selective to a specific SCSI hard drive(s).
Hardware/Software affected: All Aladdin, Zappa, Thor, Tiger-eye, Aurora and Venus systemboards. The following chart contains the Gateway part number, which is located on the invoice received with the computer, and the Reference name of the systemboard. For the sake of simplicity, the rest of this document uses the Reference name of the systemboard.

Even if the On-Board IDE controller is disabled in CMOS, there is still a Splat (!). This is a normal Windows 95 function. Basically, the Device Manager states that the device is not attached or is not working properly. The system however continues to run normally.
If you have IDE devices, such as CD-ROMs or hard drives in the computer - please refer to FaxBack® documents 3160, 3161, 3162 and 3163 for additional information about this difficulty.
