Guidelines for Configuring Games with the Media Vision Sound Card.

16MVCARD

The following document describes how to configure MS-DOS based games with the 16MVCARD sound card in Windows 95. This document assumes that you have already loaded the protected mode drivers for the sound card, the real-mode drivers for the CD-ROM and the card functions properly in Windows 95. The real-mode drivers for these cards can be found on the driver diskette that was shipped with the sound card. The part number of the disk is 16MVCARDDSKX and the most recent version of the driver is 2.0.

Finding Your Sound Card Settings

Many games require that you know the hardware settings of your sound card in order to install the game. To find the settings of your 16MVCARD try the following procedure:

1. Open the Control Panel
2. Double click System
3. Choose the Device Manager tab
4. Choose the Sound, Video and Game Controllers options.
5. This will display the Media Vision Pro Audio Deluxe\Pro Sonic\Jazz 16.
6. Click the Media Vision Pro Audio Deluxe\Pro Sonic\Jazz 16, then click Properties.
7. Click the Resources tab. This will display the settings for the card.

Installing the Program

Once you have found the settings of the card it is time to run the installation program for your game. This can be done from the Add New Programs wizard in the Control Panel, if the installation program is in the root directory of the diskette or CD-ROM that you are installing from. Once you have located the install program, click on the Finish button to start the installation program.

During the course of the installation program you may be asked questions about the hardware in your system. You should have all the settings you need from the procedure above. If you are asked what type of sound card you have and Media Vision is not a choice, try either SoundBlaster Pro 2 or SoundBlaster Compatible.

Running the Program

After you have finished installing the program, run the program:

1. Right Click on the My Computer icon. Then choose Explore.
2. Double click on the drive letter the application was installed to.
3. Then double click on the directory it was installed to.
4. Find the executable file (click view, then details) and look for the word application on the right side.
5. Double click the icon.

   If the program runs correctly, do not continue with the steps listed below. Instead, go to the end of this document where icons and shortcuts are discussed. If the program is not running correctly, you may need to modify the MS-DOS Mode configuration to make the game work. Follow the steps below:

6. Right Click on the My Computer icon. Then choose Explore.
7. Double click on the drive letter the application was installed to and then double click on the directory.
8. Find the executable, (click view, then details) and look for the word application on the right side of the screen, right click then choose Properties.
9. Choose the Program tab and then click on the Advanced button.
10. Click on MS-DOS mode and then Specify a new MS-DOS configuration and add the following lines:

    CONFIG.SYS

    dos=high,umb
    device=c:\windows\himem.sys
    Note: This line is needed if your game requires EMS
    device=c:\windows\emm386.exe ram 2048
    Note: This line is used for games that do not need EMS
    device=c:\windows\emm386.exe noems
    Note: The next 2 lines are needed if the flat gray CD-ROM cable is connected to the sound card.
    deviceHIGH=c:\g2kaudio\jazz.sys P220 I5 D1 E5 T330 Q2
    deviceHIGH=c:\g2kaudio\jazzcd.sys /P340 /I11
    Note: The next line can be copied from your config.dos file, it depends on the CD-ROM drive you have - our example shows a Sony dual speed attached to the sound card.
    device=c:\g2kaudio\slcd.sys /d:mvcd001 /M:P /V /C /2 /B:340
    Note: The line listed below must be here if Plug-n-Play cards are installed, otherwise it is not needed.
    devicehigh=c:\plugplay\drivers\dos\dwcfgmg.sys
    

    AUTOEXEC.BAT

    set blaster=A220 D1 I5 H5 T4
    c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /d:mvcd001 /m:12 /v
    prompt$p$g

    set temp=c:\dos
    

11. Click on the OK button. On the Properties screen, click on OK.
12. An icon will be created, double click the icon to start the game.

Icons & Shortcuts

The MS-DOS icon created above, can be moved to the desktop or a folder, for the customerís convenience. Simply drag and drop the icon to itís new location with the mouse. You can make a copy of the icon by holding down the Control key as you drag the icon to a different location. You can also drag the icon from the desktop to the Start button and drop it. A shortcut will be created for you on the Start Menu.
