How to Install Cirrus 543x Video Drivers for the PCI Mini-Desktop Systems
The following document contains video driver installation instructions for the Mini-Desktop PCI systems integrated video. Follow these steps whenever you need to reinstall the video drivers. If you are using a different video card other than the integrated video, please follow the instructions found in the cards users guide.
DOS Utilities installation:
- Insert the diskette marked DOS Utilities into the A: drive, at the C:\> prompt, type:
and press Enter. The first screen that appears contains information about the video drivers. Once you have read the information, press Enter to continue the installation.

- Another screen that appears tells you that the drivers will be installed on the C: drive. Press Enter to accept the destination drive and continue.
- The next screen lists the different applications that the video drivers can install. The first line Cirrus Logic GD543x utilities is highlighted. On the right hand side the word NO is also highlighted. Press the space bar on the keyboard to change the answer to YES and then press Enter to continue the installation.
- The next window that appears lists VGAUTIL as the directory that the drivers will be installed to. Press Enter to accept the directory name and continue with the installation.
- If the directory is already on the hard drive, a message will appear prompting you to over-write the directory. NO is highlighted as the default answer. Use the up arrow to highlight YES and press Enter to continue.
- Once the DOS portion of the installation is complete, a message is displayed that says The GD543x display drivers installation is complete. Press any key to continue. The installation program will exit you to the C:\> prompt.
Windows installation:
To complete the installation of the video drivers, you need to enter Windows.
- Once the Program Manager appears on the screen, click on FILE and then RUN. Insert the display driver diskette labeled Windows v3.1 Drivers into the A: drive and type:
and press Enter. A README.TXT file appears; press Enter to continue the installation.

- On the next screen a window called Alpine Installation appears and prompts you to have the video drivers installed into the default directory of C:\WINDOWS\VGAUTIL. Press Enter to continue.
- The next screen will ask you to create a group called VGAUTIL. Click on the button that says Create.
- A window called Winmode will appear. In this window, enter the correct refresh rates for you monitor. The refresh rates can be located in the manual's UserĂs Guide or see document #1910. Once applicable resolutions are selected, press the Enter key and the group is then created.
You can enter this group to change resolutions in Windows and to change the refresh rates of your monitor. Once this is complete, exit Windows and reboot your system for the changes to take effect.
