How to Get Your Web Page Listed in the Amiga Web Directory
You may be surprised to know that we do not list every page we find on
the WWW that mentions the Amiga. The users of the Amiga Web Directory are looking for useful
content which may be of value to them and are not interested in wading
through hundreds of listings which do not match these criteria. The
number-one qualification for being listed in the Amiga Web Directory
is that your site must offer some sort of information or other content
that is unique and helpful to the Amiga user.
For example, if your site contains computer art which you used an
Amiga to produce, we would probably not add it based on that
fact alone. However, if you also included a tutorial about how other
users could achieve the same results, we would list your site.
Another example might be if you run a video-production company and
employ Amigas in the process. Again, few Amiga users would be
interested in this service alone, but if you offered an FAQ on how to
use the Amiga in a professional video production facility, we would
consider your site. Petitions and survey pages (unless sponsored by an
established Amiga company performing market research) are usually not
listed, either. Also, having only a collection of links to other Amiga
web pages does not constitute "content" and it would be
quite redundant to list a page like that on the Amiga Web Directory.
We reserve the right to not list sites which engage in piracy of
commercial software, illegal account hacking, mail spoofing, etc.
Some link submissions, though, are almost always accepted. These may
include commercial sites which offer information about their
Amiga-compatible products such as hardware and/or software, shareware
software home pages (if the software is available and the authour
provides a download link) and other Amiga User Group home pages.
If you are an Amiga-oriented company and would like to draw more
attention to your own site, please see our CUCUG Contributing Vendors Page
and the CUCUG Banner Ad Page for
details.
When we first list your new WWW page on the Amiga Web Directory,
a link is placed in the appropriate section along with a
graphic which remains with your link for approximately 30 days.
Your site is also listed in our insanely popular New Links
page, also for about a month. These attention-getting devices
result in sending literally thousands of people to visit
your site in a very short period of time. You should make sure
that your site is "ready" for its Worldwide Grand Opening,
that it looks like you want it and not too much content is "still
under construction". Since we reserve entries in the New
Links section primarily for new links added to the directory or
major, sweeping updates of key sites, you will not have an opportunity
to be re-listed in New Links once your site is already part of
the Amiga Web Directory.
To submit your site to the Amiga Web Directory, please use the Suggest-A-Link form. Please do not ask
us to separately list all of your pages, features or
subsections. If you ever change the URL (address) of your site, please
let us know right away by using the Update-A-Link form. Failure to notify us
of a moved link could result in your link being banished to the
not-so-popular Lost Links Page.
If your link is accepted for inclusion in the Amiga Web Directory, we
simply ask that you also link back to us from your page--preferably
with a graphic link. Details for how to easily do this can be found on
our Graphic Links to the Amiga Web
Directory page. If you feature prominent reciprical graphic links
for other Amiga site listing services, including a graphic link to
the Amiga Web Directory greatly improves your chances of being
listed.
Besides WWW pages, we also accept press releases regarding major
news items, new commercial product announcements and other developmental
changes in the Amiga market. These types of announcements are
generally made in our Amiga News
section. If you have a newsworthy announcement, please send it
to cucug@cucug.org. Please
note that we cannot write your press release for you (here is
an example press release
you may use to get some ideas for how to format your own). While
text e-mail is okay, receiving marked-up HTML press releases makes
the process faster for us to post on our site. Also please understand that
we cannot publish all material submitted and that we reserve the right
to accept and reject press releases for any reason.
