BAMM/IMPACT Self Defense offers a range of classes utilizing full-power, full contact self defense techniques. We provide a safe, supportive atmosphere in which students are able to confront the frightening spectre of assault and develop an expanded sense of their choices rather than limitations in real life self defense situations.

Women CAN defend themselves!

At BAMM we focus on what women CAN do rather than on what they can't. Women learn that self defense is about taking care of themselves and that their safety is important. The crucial barrier most women experience in learning to defend themselves is not their size or physical fitness, but is instead the internalized cultural role which restrains them from taking action or causes them to take action too late if attacked. In most instances a woman will unrelentingly protect her child from attack, and we at BAMM encourage each woman to utilize an equal commitment to protect herself.

BAMM (Bay Area Model Mugging) has been teaching padded assailant self defense courses in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1985. With over 3,000 graduates, BAMM is one of the oldest chapters teaching padded assailant self defense in the country. The Director, Sheryl Hall Doran, is one of the co-founders of the original Model Mugging program.

BAMM is a founding member of IMPACT International Inc., an international organization of padded assailant self defense chapters around the U.S., Europe, and Canada. For more information on self defense organizations and principles, contact the Assault Prevention Information Network.
