SMUG is pleased to have Jim Warren give a talk on how computers and modems are opening the doors to government ... and the government is using them to open the doors to citizens and businesses. Expected topics will include (1) current policy and legislative issues regarding computer-aided public access to local, state and federal legislative, executive and judicial records and decision-makers, (2) personal privacy protection and covert and overt government oversight of citizens and businesses, and (3) using computers to facilitate irresistable grassroots political action - effective participation in the process of our own governance.

Jim Warren is the "futures" columnist for MicroTimes, public-access columnist for Government Technology and government-access columnist for BoardWatch. He led the successful advocacy to make California legislative records freely available online without state fees and has received many awards for his acheivements. Prospective new members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
