Welcome to the Technical Information Department

Who Are We?

We are Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's information and communication specialists. Our job is to facilitate the exchange of information inside and outside the Laboratory. Publication professionals with a wide variety of backgrounds draft, edit, design, compose, illustrate, print, distribute, broadcast, review, and release many forms of technical and nontechnical publications,working both with traditional paper-based information systems and electronic information systems. We also locate needed information in print and online sources, locally and worldwide, and borrow, copy, or download it to support information needs of Lab projects.

Services We Provide

The Technical Information Department (TID) provides the following support services to LLNL employees.

Library Services

We offer standard reference services; conduct online database searches; acquire and circulate books, journals, and reports; borrow library materials from other libraries; custom design information databases; and provide other specialized services as requested.

Publications and Proposals

We offer high quality report editing and writing; we design and develop internal and external communications plans; we prepare proposals, marketing and management publications; and we coordinate the production of your publication with design, art, photography, layout, printing, and review and release.

Photography

We take high quality studio and location photographs in both film and digital formats; process, alter, and enhance photos; and scan photos from a variety of formats for inserting into publications, posters, and displays.

Art and Design

We prepare viewgraphs, brochures, flyers, and all kinds of illustrations in color and in black and white; we make posters and trade show displays; we create animated video sequences and multimedia electronic presentations; we retouch and airbrush photos; and we design paper and electronic publications for effective use.

Video/Media Services

We scriptwrite, record, edit, and produce high-quality video productions; videotape events, record and play video and audio presentations; and operate the Lawrence Livermore Television Network and the Continuing Education video collection.

Electronic Publishing

We are Internet publishing experts. We design, publish, and maintain Internet home pages and other publications for release on the World Wide Web. These home pages and publications may be viewed with any standard browsing tool such as Mosaic or Netscape. We also develop and maintain guidelines for the preparation of electronic publications.

Presentations

We produce high-quality presentation materials and briefings. We can prepare transparent overheads or viewgraphs; poster presentations; semi-animated "slideshows;" and fully animated and interactive presentations. We construct displays, models, and conference booths.
